ProJeCt of Easton, our Mission of the Month for November

ProJeCt of Easton is a faith based local ministry that describes its mission as simply helping people help themselves. The name of this ministry emphasizes its interfaith reach. The Pro stands for Protestant, the Je for Jewish, the Ct for Catholic. ProJeCt’s Emergency Food Pantry operating out of St John’s Lutheran Church in downtown Easton is the largest food pantry in Northampton County. All income qualified clients can receive food. Each month the food pantry provides 2-3 day supplies to almost 1700 individuals in over 900 families. And 135 of these families reported that they were homeless at the time of their first contact with ProJeCt.  ProJeCt’s “Assist” is an emergency assistance program to meet the needs of families who have exhausted all other avenues of support. “Assist” provides emergency vouchers for goods and services such as prescriptions, emergency shelter, eyeglasses, home heating oil, work clothing, baby care needs and local transportation. Recognizing that crisis intervention does not by itself address the fundamental causes of poverty, hunger, and homelessness, “Assist” often serves as a portal to other agency services designed to help people help themselves. The goal is both to meet emergency head on and then track client progress toward self-sufficiency. ProJeCt provides a full array of literary programs including English as a second language, GED classes and family literacy classes. Recognizing parents as the most important teachers of their children this agency teaches parents to become full partners in their children’s education. “Sizzle” is a summer literacy day camp offering structured learning opportunities to academically at risk children. This free six week program integrates reading, math, writing, arts & crafts and recreation. Pre and post tests administered to students consistently show considerable academic improvement. It is easy to see why this organization has been chosen as our November Mission of the Month. This is a local organization reaching out to the needy in our community providing tremendous benefits both short and long term. Please let’s continue the Trinity tradition of supporting this most worthy agency in a very Jesus pleasing way.
We are “The Cereal Church!” Trinity Cereal Count continues to be awesome! Due to vacations and low summer attendance, our cereal count had dropped below the-goal-to-date. We need 28 boxes per week to meet the 1400 box annual goal, but wait! The post summer numbers have turned around significantly! As of Sunday, October 29th, we have collected a record 1,265 boxes of nutritious cereal for the Easton ProJeCt Food Pantry since the beginning of the year. Our year to date intake is now 33 boxes ahead, that’s more than a week ahead of the goal-to-date. Every cent you spend on cereal goes directly to help those in need, and your donations are greatly appreciated! Many hands make light work, so thanks for pitching in and donating! We truly are the cereal church!
PB&J Reminder: Each first Sunday of the month, the Ark Soup Kitchen bin will once again appear at the back of the church for your contributions of jars of peanut butter or GRAPE jelly or 4 lb. bags of sugar. August 6th will be the first Sunday of the month. (If you have other small quantity items you’d like to donate, please put them in the ProJeCt Food Pantry basket at any time). Thanks!
